The Zedu Crew
Suean – yes…that is the correct spelling – is our ‘POCUS Provedore’, the visionary force behind Zedu.
Having started out life as a gymnastics coach, Suean’s focus has always been on getting the best out of people. But now – rather than asking gymnasts to point their toes – she’s applying her decades of knowledge and asking clinicians to point (or rock, or slide, or sweep) their probes.
Suean’s fascination with the impact that small changes can make to outcomes – whether it be in image acquisition or language – has seen her pursue higher education qualifications, making sure Zedu is always at the cutting edge. Her hunger for knowledge is infectious, and you’ll find her asking questions of everything in the quest to improve ultrasound teaching. This, combined with a pragmatic approach to getting results, is why she’s so highly sought after as an international speaker and tutor at major ultrasound conferences.
In her desire to deliver world best education Suean doesn’t do downtime – but when she isn’t teaching or travelling she is guilty of enjoying reality TV, social media, testing new recipes on the family and has set herself the goal of broadening her knowledge of gin and bourbon.
Secret power – precognition
Mike, known professionally as Mike, is our ‘Director of Details’.
He built his career early on in the economics and regulation of pipes and wires industries, but the appeal of helping people more directly drew him into the world of ultrasound. He has never looked back.
His ability to keep things on track is legendary – and as a bit of a jack of all trades he can turn his hand at everything from IT problems to talking maternity wear with our pregnant patient models. Just be prepared for a bad dad joke or two…and do not upset his clear desk policy…
Mike’s also our resident social media ninja, making sure our social channels always have the latest and greatest ground breaking ultrasound news.
When he’s not keeping us all in line at the Zedu HQ, you’ll find him enjoying family life which may or may not include Lego, Back to the Future and a BBQ.
Secret power – flying
With her reputation as a fantastic scanner and an academic record to envy, if you’re looking for no-nonsense advice about scanning clinically then Daniela is someone you want to meet.
Finding people of Daniela’s calibre is hard, but we did and we’re holding on to her. Her direct, efficient and practical approach is valued by all who meet her. But don’t be fooled; behind that cool calm exterior is a wicked sense of humour that makes working with her a highly entertaining experience. This combination – possibly honed in her youth when working at Coles – means that you’ll get the best in ultrasound education packaged up so that your imaging will be practical and precise – but you’ll also have a laugh at the same time. Plus – if you need coffee – Daniela’s the expert to consult (secretly, we think coffee consumption is the reason her lectures are short…..).
When she’s not at Zedu putting you through your paces, Daniela loves nothing more than chilling out with a good Italian meal while planning European travel, walking, reading, barracking for the Vixens and winding down to the music of Simply Red.
Secret power – invisibility
Even on the dimmest of days, Jenny is our ray of sunshine who takes it on herself to keep everyone at the Zedu HQ healthy and happy.
A supremely qualified, experienced and respected ultrasound educator, Jenny has the uncanny ability to make the complex deceptively simple. Nothing’s too much trouble for her – if you’re struggling, she’ll be there with you every step of the way until you get the results you’re after. We have a suspicion that her first job at Mr Whippy may have given her the ability to keep everyone happy.
When she isn’t driving learners on our scan floor, Jenny’s driving on the par 4, singing Crowded House tunes, cheering for the Vixens or planning the next holiday with her man-in-a-million.
Secret power – teleportation or flying
When you first meet Karen at our learning HQ one word comes to mind – taskmaster.
With one eye on you, another on the screen and another on the keyboard (yes – that’s three) Karen’s ability to create order from chaos is legendary. Drawing on her ninja-like ultrasound and education skills she’ll keep you focused, watch your back to keep you out of trouble, and strike with precision guidance when you need it. If she knows you can do better, be prepared for a good dose of tough love; she’ll hound you to keep you on your toes, but be prepared to laugh out loud as she peppers you with true blue Aussie aphorisms. After all, you can take the girl out of the country…
While she’s loved ultrasound from day one, Karen shares many other passions. If you can’t find her here you can bet she’s on the move – either walking the world’s best tracks while teasing us on Insta, walking her dogs or (at the other extreme) driving cars fast to the sound of Def Leppard or Pink.
Secret power – ninja queen
Have you ever encountered someone that brings calm to chaos, exuding tranquillity even on the toughest of days? If you have then you’ve probably met Viv – Zedu’s Zen master.
Her uncanny ability to talk you through the complexities of ultrasound is grounded in her years of ultrasound and education experience. We also suspect her youth spent in the surf and working at a video rental store (what’s that??) comes into play. If you are finding yourself overwhelmed by detail or frustrated in yourself, Viv will guide you through the learning process to ease the stress and help you realise your full potential. Before you know it, you’ll have mastered the seemingly impossible and wonder why it appeared so hard at the start. And like Mr Miyagi in the Karate Kid, Viv will take pride in seeing you succeed.
Like any good Zen master, when she isn’t helping others find inner ultrasound peace, Viv enjoys making cocktails, golf, surf beaches, travelling and supporting the Tigers – she’s even calm then…
Secret power – time travel
The glue that holds the Zedu crew together, Grace (aka Racey) is our quiet hero, making sure your time with us is optimised for learning.
Grace brings an international flavour to our HQ, combining Portuguese passion with South African efficiency. That’s why she’s ace at events management – making sure patients are matched with programs, and catering matched with your dietary requirements. Plus her talents for the graphic arts are well tested by us. And that’s why things would turn to (Portuguese) custard if she wasn’t here. The demands on her are many, but she makes it look effortless like the proverbial gliding swan.
If Grace isn’t here or answering the phones she likes nothing more than a Portuguese meal accompanied by Andrea Bocelli, or playing with her little one, and dreams one day of holidaying in the snow.
Secret power – healing
If you want to learn properly, you can’t do it on an empty stomach. That’s where Dee comes in as our ‘Conductor of cuisine’.
Like any conductor, Dee makes sure food delivery is timed with metrical rhythm, making sure you’re kept alert and energised for a full day of Zedu learning. And as our resident Italian, one thing is guaranteed – your stomach’ll be as full as your head. Nothing’s too much trouble for her when it comes to looking after you – she’s our Nan with a plan!
Be careful though – she’s a Tiger’s supporter – and loves nothing more than talking footy, shopping for bargains and planning her next exotic getaway.
Should anyone want to meet a real life character from Harry Potter, then you must introduce yourself to Alysia – our own version of the magical Professor Minerva McGonagall.
Alysia weaves her own type of magic at Zedu, putting her teaching skills to good use and exercising tough love to make sure that our programs are all in good order. And – with what can appear to be a simple wave of a wand – our accreditation is maintained, our learning objectives are aligned and the timetables tested. But don’t interrupt her flow or you’ll be subjected to an ‘Expelliarmus’!
Our international representative, Alysia likes nothing more than relaxing with a book and a good cocktail (or wine – or two), listening to country music, and dreams of one day spending Christmas in Finland at the real Santa Claus Village – that’d be magic!
Secret power – time travel
