Zedu Weekly Wrap – 5 August 2022
As townies…
we really take access to healthcare for granted. A quick visit to the GP, a referral and a test – done.
I’ve been working in the outback this week training a new cohort of POCUS users and it has been a real eye opener. The tyranny of distance, the cost of access and staff shortages are conspiring against those who live in our remote communities. And the system – for want of a better word – seems to restrict initiative while relying on the amazing goodwill, dedication and charity of its employees to simply keep going. While I don’t buy into catastrophising, while the system is too big to fail (to borrow a GFC term) it has all the indications that it is under significant stress. I’m not too sure when that stress will break things…
Plenty in the news this week – check out the wearable ultrasound chip. Not sure how ALARA fits in the micro-dose 24-48 hour exposure timeframe, but I’m sure that the applications (excuse the pun) haven’t even been imagined yet.
That’s all for now…see you next week
Suean and Mike
P.S. – The August coaching corner – covering the basics of breast #ultrasound – thankfully went off from the outback without a hitch last night. The recording will be available soon. Register & join our community of clever here…
P.P.S. – Join our POCUS Educators / Seed resource page and POCUS Educators / Seed Support Network on Facebook – resources, tips and community all in one spot.
Get the most out of your teaching moments – join our TRain the UltraSound Trainer (TRUST) course This isn’t a course on how to perform an ultrasound examination or use the technology – it’s designed to give you the teaching tools you’ll need to teach ultrasound on the run. In the words of a previous participant – it’s meta! We’re running this internationally recognised course in Australia for the first time in July and October – don’t miss out.
