Zedu Weekly Wrap – 24 June 2022
Happy Winter Solstice…
we’ve passed peak darkness (not really something that bothers the sonographers among us), and we can start looking forward to longer, warmer days.
This month was topped off as we got to attend the the 21st International Conference on Emergency Medicine. Given it was in our home town, we couldn’t turn down the opportunity to catch up with so many colleagues and friends face-to-face. Quite the novelty and surprisingly emotional after such a long time away. Congratulations to Convenor Simon Judkins and the entire organising committee for what was a great event.
Highlights from the feeds this week include some good introductory videos on fundamental ED applications from Stanford Medicine, a debate from Michael Prats (@PratsEM) on the best cardiac view – subxiphoid vs parasternal long axis – and a how to on lung scanning from Katie Wiskar. Acronym of the year so far goes to Rajeswari Natraj and Suchitra Ranjit for their BESTFIT paper – take a look.
And we’re already getting ready for the next coaching corner; having received several requests Suean will be providing an introduction to breast ultrasound – be sure to register for the session on July 7.
That’s all for June…
See you next week
Mike and Suean
P.S. – Suean’s June Coaching Corner on the tips and tricks of remote ultrasound coaching is now available for free on the Coaching Corner webpage – do you have any tips to add?
If you’re a sonographer thinking about becoming a SEED – or a potential employer trying to understand what it takes to make the transition – take a look at our TRain the UltraSound Trainer (TRUST) course designed specifically to give you the teaching tools you’ll need to teach ultrasound on the run. We’re running this internationally recognised course in Australia for the first time in July and October – don’t miss out.

It is odd to compare line #pocus to an inferior study (chest x-ray) and measure diagnostic accuracy from this. These results are at odds with most other lung ultrasound studies. https://t.co/1QqEktO5r7

#POCUS friends, there r open access files 4 TEE planes https://t.co/YedBl3Fxb6. Anyone know of similar free open access files for transthoracic echo planes? ie PLAX, PSAX (aortic root, MV, papillary muscle levels), A4C, A5C, subcostal (4 chamber, short axis), suprasternal. Thx

Lung ultrasound doesn't get the attention it should. It's a basic #POCUS application, but is game-changing in the evaluation of respiratory pathology; superior to CXR; and has a steep learning curve.
