Zedu Weekly Wrap – 22 October 2021
This is exciting…
as we fire up the Zedu HQ and head back to face-to-face teaching – again! After another 80 days shut down (I think it’s 328 in total – lost count) we’re cleaning the whiteboards, powering up the ultrasound and warming the gel.
We’re proud of the way Australians have embraced vaccination, for it has delivered the opportunity for us to enter into a new normal. However we’re all the while aware that the healthcare sector is going to bear the brunt of what’s to come for the foreseeable future. We hope we can do you justice.
Like every week there’s a plethora of ultrasound news to pick from. In this issue a theme emerged – cardiac and regional anesthesia. Plus we recommend checking out the POCUS article in the NEJM summarised by Jose Diaz-Gomez.
And as always – if you have something coming up you’d like to add or a gem we may have overlooked – let us know.
See you next week.
Mike and Suean
P.S. – Suean’s Coaching Corner on B-Mode cardiac imaging has been really popular, topping our YouTube stats. See for yourself – and get ready for next month where we’ll be discussing how to reduce x-ray ordering using POCUS.

A well-timed update #POCUS was necessary given its continued dissemination into many areas of medical practice. The distinctions between POCUS and consultative radiology and cardiology ultrasonography is crucial, but they overlap and are complementary. @SCCM @SCCM_Anesth @ASE360 pic.twitter.com/WAi678l5BC

Good morning #blocktober friends! Today (the 18th) is QL day! We’ll discuss the anterior approach to the QL block, and go over anatomy, sonoanatomy and technique. It’s found a place in our practice for big abdominal cases, but it has a number of other indications too. #DukeRAP pic.twitter.com/hQ5vgKdGfa

Hey hey its #blocktober 17th! Today we’re looking at the cervical plexus block, a technique that is simple, safe but very effective—awake carotid surgery? No problem! Also a great adjunct for thyroid, clavicle, shoulder and breast surgery. How are YOU using this block? #DukeRAP pic.twitter.com/pMQHo6Qft8
